SNAP I/O sets a new standard for innovation in digital and control technology. SNAP utilizes high-density industrial packaging, flexible mounting options, and distributed intelligence to provide maximum versatility across a diverse range of application types. The SNAP I/O system is made up of modular components that are designed to work together. SNAP components include high density AC and DC digital I/O modules, intelligent analog I/O modules, I/O mounting racks, and a common I/O processor (brain board). SNAP's innovative packaging allows components to simply snap in place. SNAP I/O's compact design can deliver an overall space savings of 60% over traditional Classic racks, allowing customers to realize dramatic savings in enclosure costs. SNAP is designed to work together with the OPTO 22 OPTOMUX software and FACTORY FLOOR MISTIC software - an awesome new suite for Windows 32-bit software - to provide a total control solution for manufacturing.

All SNAP I/O modules are optically isolated and have removable top mounted top mounted connectors to provide easy access for field wiring. SNAP digital's 4-channel per module packaging delivers high density with 4000 volts of input to output isolation. Each digital module features standard fuses and integral channel specific LEDs for convenient troubleshooting and maintenance.

SNAP's intelligent analog modules provide transformer and optical isolation and are software configurable. SNAP analog modules offer 15-bit resolution for high accuracy and include a serial interface for easy programmability and integration.

SNAP racks come in two model types: D series (digital only) and B series (digital/analog). All SNAP racks use a single 5VDC power source and offer the option of DIN rail mounting as well as standard panel mounting.

SNAP D series racks are compatible with OPTO 22 Classic PB mounting racks and are ideal for machine control and OEM applications. SNAP D series racks also support OPTO 22's brain boards with the industry standard MISTIC, OPTOMUX and PAMUX protocols. SNAP D series racks can handle from 16 to 48 digital I/O points and use an industry standard 50-pin header connector on the control side of the rack.

SNAP B series racks and the associated B3000 I/O processor (brain board) provide intelligent distributed processing capability. B series racks can be located remotely from the host processor using RS485 serial communications. Since analog and digital modules have the same footprint, they can share the same mounting rack. A B3000 I/O processor can then control up to 32 digital I/O channels and 16 analog I/O channels on the same compact B series mounting rack.
